Luther Schwich

Athletic Director, Coach

As CLU’s first athletic director, Schwich helped establish the Athletic Department. He was CLU’s first baseball coach and served two years as head basketball coach.

During the 1962-63 seasons, Schwich helped lead the basketball team to a 16-12 record and the baseball team to a 15-7 record that included an 11-game winning streak. He established the first youth summer camps, hired Bob Shoup as football coach and was instrumental in bringing the Dallas Cowboys to the campus for their summer training camp.

He is remembered for placing academics above athletics and encouraging his athletes to excel in their studies.
