ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — A trio of Cal Lutheran seniors – Alexa Barnes, Christie Kurdys and Kaden White – garnered Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honors, announced Monday afternoon.
Barnes was named Field Athlete of the Week for her impressive showing at Saturday's Rossi Relays Invitational, taking the Regals' top two finishes on the day against competition from every NCAA division. She earned bronze in the hammer throw, going 47.75 meters, a new lifetime personal record that moves her up into fourth on the Cal Lutheran all-time list. She additionally claimed fourth in the discus throw, reaching for 38.88 meters.
Kurdys earned Female Tennis Athlete of the Week after leading the team to a 9-0 sweep over Occidental on Sunday. She won the No. 2 singles spot. 6-2, 6-1, and joined teammate Lilijana Peters-Smith for the 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles.
White secured Baseball Hitter of the Week honors and led the team to a 3-1 weekend, including the series victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and 6-2 victory over Whitworth. The catcher went 7-for-16 (.438) over the four contests with three multi-hit games and five RBI. White highlighted the weekend with his first career home run – a two-run bomb against CMS in the home opener and currently sits in second amongst the team in batting average (.417) and on-base-percentage (.484).
