COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Both Cal Lutheran Swim & Dive programs were named the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team for the Fall 2018 semester, announced Tuesday morning.
"It is a fantastic accomplishment for both our men's and women's teams to be named to the Scholar All-America Team. The swimmers and divers work hard and do an exceptional job both in the pool and in the classroom. They truly are student-athletes," said head coach Barry Schreifels.
A record-breaking 713 teams from 416 institutions were named to the latest list, representing a total of 16,502 student-athletes from all three NCAA levels, the NAIA and NJCAA. To earn the honor, teams were required to post a GPA of 3.0 of higher for the fall semester and maintain a roster of 12 or more student-athletes.
The Cal Lutheran men's program notched a 3.13 GPA while the women recorded a 3.62. The Regals GPA also lands them in the top 15 amongst all Division III women's teams.
"A special congratulations to both programs for earning national academic honors. I'm extremely proud of our teams. They reflect a great example of fulfilling the Division III and Cal Lutheran charter," said Athletics Director Dr. Dan Kuntz.
