ALISO VIEJO, Calif.– This afternoon the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced the Week 7 Athlete of the Week honorees and Cal Lutheran's Amanda Roberts (WVB), Andreas Nybo (S&D) and Ty Lozano (FB) were selected.
Roberts, a senior from Grass Valley, Calif., was named the Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week. The outside hitter helped the Regals go 3-0 on the week as she recorded a double-double, in kills and digs, for each match.
Cal Lutheran upset No. 2 CMS at home 3-2. The Violet and Gold were on the road for two more games and took down La Verne (3-0) and Redlands (3-1). Roberts finished with 42 kills on the week, averaging 3.50 kills per frame in addition to notching 44 digs, 3.67 per set. She also totaled six blocks, an assist, and a service ace.
Nybo, a sophomore from Portola Valley, Calif., was named the Swimmer of the Week. He led the Kingsmen with two first-place finishes on day one of the Malibu Invitational hosted by Pepperdine University.
Nybo took home first in the men's 200-yard individual medley, touching the wall at 1:56.80, and in the men's 200-yard butterfly at 1:55.37. The following day, he took home second in the 100-yard individual medley at 53.76 and sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:14.71.
Lozano, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., was named the Football Defensive Athlete of the Week. The linebacker helped the Kingsmen to a come-from-behind win over Pomona-Pitzer, 28-24.
Lozano finished with eight tackles, including a pair of second-half sacks for a loss of 15 yards, and registered an interception and a pass break-up as Cal Lutheran held the Sagehens scoreless in the second half.
The SCIAC Athlete of the Week series is released each Monday throughout the academic year.
