Six Kingsmen Earn All-SCIAC; Salud Secures Newcomer of the Year

Announced this morning by the SCIAC, the Cal Lutheran baseball program landed six All-SCIAC selections with Miguel Salud earning Newcomer of the Year in 2017 as the Kingsmen locked up both the regular season and SCIAC Postseason Tournament titles.

With a 3-2 victory over Redlands on Sunday afternoon at Ullman Stadium, the No. 19 Cal Lutheran baseball team captured its fourth Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament Championship in five years, and with it secured a spot in the NCAA Division III Regionals.

The No. 19 Cal Lutheran baseball team reached the 30-win plateau for the fifth straight season while advancing to its fifth consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament Championship game with a 4-3 win over Redlands on Saturday at Ullman Stadium.

On Saturday, May 6 inside of the Gilbert Arena, the Fourteenth Annual Scholar-Athlete Society Induction took place as 176 student-athletes, the largest group in the history of the event, were honored for academic accomplishments after the day-to-day emphasis is shined on athletics during the year.

In the opening game of the 2017 SCIAC Baseball Postseason Tournament on Friday afternoon, the No. 19 Cal Lutheran baseball team and No. 1 seed in the tournament defeated No. 4 seed La Verne 6-2 behind another dominant pitching performance from ace Marshall Pautsch.

The 2017 SCIAC Postseason Baseball Tournament is headed back to Thousand Oaks for the fourth time in the five-year history of the event as Cal Lutheran locked up its 14th overall reglar season title and fifth consecutive SCIAC championship.

Kingsmen Clinch Fifth Straight SCIAC Championship

With a one game lead over second-place La Verne entering Saturday, the No. 16 Cal Lutheran baseball team controlled its own destiny and swept Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to claim the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship for the fifth straight season and 14th overall in program history. The Kingsmen shut out the Stags 5-0 in game one before topping CMS 5-2 at George “Sparky” Anderson Field on Senior Day.

The final SCIAC series of the spring sent the ABCA No. 16 Cal Lutheran baseball team to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps where the Stags stunned the Kingsmen with a 5-4 walk-off victory to make the final day of the regular season more interesting.

On a scorching day in Pasadena, the No. 18 Cal Lutheran baseball team took care of business with a doubleheader sweep over Caltech on Saturday afternoon. In game one, the Kingsmen racked up 16 hits in a 12-5 win while concluding the day with an 8-0 shutout to clinch the series sweep.
