PASADENA, Calif. - Cal Lutheran matched its season-high total with

Kingsmen scored in each of the final four innings including a five-run fifth to
blow the game open.

Cal Lutheran collected three of
its eight extra base hits on the day in the fifth inning. Nick DeLorenzo started
off the frame with one of his two triples on the day. John Leal, Dominick
Solley, and Trevor Koons provided run-scoring hits during the rally, and a pair
of Caltech errors aided the Kingsmen scoring surge.
Caltech (0-32, 0-27 SCIAC) put
together a consecutive string of three base hits capped off by a Brendan
Sheehan RBI-single in the fourth inning. However CLU starting pitcher John
LaMoure limited the damage and earned the victory. He struck out eight batters in
just five innings for the second straight game, backing up his most recent performance
against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on April 14.
Cal Lutheran recorded its final
eight defensive outs courtesy of strikeouts. LaMoure finished his outing with a
pair, followed by two from Aaron Roth, and one apiece from Peter James, Scott
Peters, Matt Burden, and Landry Kiyabu.
Caltech's Jerome Kelly gave up
eight runs (four earned) in 4.2 innings. Teammate David Carrega led the Beavers
with his 2-for-3 effort at the plate.
Solley reached base safely in all
four of his plate appearances with two hits and a pair of walks. He finished
2-for-2 with three runs batted in on the day and was one of 13 different
Kingsmen to collect a base hit on the day.
The game was called after seven
innings with Cal Lutheran holding a 10-plus run lead through seven innings of
play. For the fourth straight game the Kingsmen held the opposition to three
runs or less.
Cal Lutheran (22-14, 17-10 SCIAC)
will host La Verne in its final conference game of the season on Saturday,
April 28, at 1 p.m.
