Three Kingsmen Earn All-SCIAC

As announced by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) today, the 2012 baseball All-SCIAC teams boast a trio of Kingsmen with Trevor Koons earning First Team while a pair of pitchers in Byron Minnich and Peter Ciaramitaro each got a Second Team nod.

In 2010 Cal Lutheran lost a special member of its community with the passing of longtime Major League Baseball player and manager George “Sparky” Anderson. The man for whom the baseball field at CLU is named left a long legacy on and off the field and now, via print, his impact on so many will continue in Dan Ewald’s book “Sparky and Me: My Friendship with Sparky Anderson and the Lessons He Shared About Baseball and Life” set to be released on May 8.

The Cal Lutheran baseball season came to a close on Monday afternoon at "Sparky" Anderson Field following a 16-4 loss to Chapman. The Panthers broke open a tie game with 13 runs over a span of two innings.

Pitcher Byron Minnich tossed a two-hit shutout against conference champion La Verne on Saturday afternoon in a 2-0 Cal Lutheran victory to finish out league play.

Cal Lutheran matched its season-high total with 19 hits during a 14-1 conference road win over Caltech on Friday afternoon. The Kingsmen scored in each of the final four innings including a five-run fifth to blow the game open.

Cal Lutheran starting pitcher Peter Ciaramitaro provided the team's first complete game shutout of the season during a 9-0 conference win over Redlands at "Sparky" Anderson Field on Sunday afternoon.

Baseball Suffers Walk-off Loss to OXY

A sixth inning two-run blast by Trevor Koons gave Cal Lutheran a 2-1 lead that held through seven innings. Occidental responded with runs in the eighth and ninth frames to hand the Kingsmen a 3-2 loss in conference action on Saturday.

In a pitcher's duel lasting less than two hours the Cal Lutheran baseball team fell 2-0 at "Sparky" Anderson Field to Whittier on Monday afternoon. Poets pitcher Ryan Schwenn tossed a complete game, five-hit shutout for the victory.
