Swimming & Diving

Freshman Benjamin Brewer made history for Cal Lutheran at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving National Championships where he became the first swimmer to become an All-America honoree for the program with a fourth place finish in the 1650, clocking a 15:28.80, also bringing home Honorable Mention All-America status in the 400 IM with a time of 4:01.83. He was two spots away from becoming a three-time awardee as the second alternate in the 500 free after a prelim swim of 4:31.59, which was the fastest time for a SCIAC competitor in the event.

SCIAC Athlete of the Week

Gabe Gunter had an incredible week at the plate, hitting .556 (10-for-18) with five RBIs to lead the Kingsmen to a 4-0 record. The senior right fielder capped off the weekend with a bang, blasting a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the 12th inning to defeat Willamette (Ore.) 9-8 in a comeback thriller on Saturday. In a doubleheader against Berry (Ga.) on Friday, Gunter collected four hits total to complete the sweep over the Vikings. On Tuesday, Gunter went 2-for-2 with a walk against Whittier. He was also strong in the field, throwing out a runner at the plate for one of his two assists and was perfect with 10 putouts.

Mikaela Mayhew


Junior Mikaela Mayhew was a vacuum at second baseman this week in four games for the Regals. She had 29 touches without a miscue, recording 12 putouts with 17 assists and was part of a double play against Occidental. Mayhew was instrumental in a 1-0 win over Denison on Friday. Offensively, batting in both the nine hole and leadoff spot, Mayhew executed two sacrifice bunts and notched three hits, scoring one run for the Violet and Gold.
