Brandon Kearney

SCIAC Athlete of the Week

Brandon Kearney put on a scoring clinic this past week, pouring in five goals in just two games to help the Kingsmen go 1-0-1. The sophomore forward helped CLU pull off a come-from-behind victory against Caltech, providing a hat-trick, along with the golden goal in the first overtime period. Kearney continued his offensive onslaught against Redlands, adding a goal just 30 seconds into the match and another later in the first half. The conversion from defender to forward has been a successful one for Kearney who leads the SCIAC with nine goals.

Sarah Pappas

Junior Sarah Pappas guided the No. 7 Regals to a 2-0 week, with sweeps past conference opponents Whittier and No. 9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps by contributing 11 total blocks while adding 15 kills on a .619 hitting percentage. The middle blocker tallied eight kills, on 12 total attempts, while adding six total blocks on the road against the Poets on Tuesday night. On Saturday in a much-anticipated showdown between two AVCA Top-10 teams, the Violet and Gold swept the ninth-ranked Athenas behind a seven-kill, five-block performance that included a pair of solo stops. Pappas currently leads the SCIAC with 55 total blocks and 1.12 blocks per set.
