Volleyball

Michelle Lawrence helped lead the Regals to a 3-1 weekend at the Emory National Invitational, which included upset victories over No. 2 Calvin and No. 6 Washington-St. Louis. The 6-foot-3 outside hitter was named to the All-Tournament Team after totaling 54 kills, 44 digs and 21 total blocks. CLU opened the tournament with a 3-0 sweep over Wheaton (Ill.) and Lawrence led the way with nine kills while adding 10 digs and later posted a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs in a battle against No. 1 Emory. On Saturday morning against No. 6 Washington-St. Louis, Lawrence contributed nine more kills and share a team-lead with 12 digs while recording five block assists. The Walnut Creek, Calif. native saved her best game of the tournament for last. During a 3-2 upset over No. 2 Calvin, she tallied 22 kills with a .404 hitting percentage, 12 digs and eight total blocks.

SCIAC Athlete of the Week

Ben Chavez Jr. rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Kingsmen football team to a 27-24 road victory over Willamette (Ore.). On just his second carry of the game, the Oxnard, Calif. native ran in a six-yard score to give CLU a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter. Midway through the third quarter, Chavez broke off his longest run of the day, a 24-yarder, into the end zone to put the Kingsmen up 27-3. CLU would hold off a late Bearcat rally and pick up their first win in the state of Oregon since 1965. Chavez rushed a total of 22 times and had an average of 6.0 yards per carry.
