SCIAC Athlete of the Week

Melissa Skiba captured two individual titles at the 2015 SCIAC Track & Field Championships this past weekend and is now a six-time champion during her illustrious career at CLU. The senior harrier began the day with a 1,500m victory after clocking a time of 4:32.68 and later cruised to first place by more than nine seconds in the 5,000m with a time of 17:22.35. Skiba was also honored with the Jennifer Stary Character Award. This year, Skiba holds the fastest Division III time in the nation in the 5,000m and is ranked sixth in the 1,500m. 

Kyle Sanchez


Kyle Sanchez has been on a tear at the plate this past week, hitting .577 (15-for-26) with 11 runs scored, eight RBIs, one homerun, three doubles and four walks. The sophomore third basemen helped the Kingsmen clinch the regular season SCIAC championship after going 3-for-6 with his third homer of the year, three runs scored and two RBIs in a 15-3 rout over Occidental. In the SCIAC Postseason Tournament this weekend, Sanchez went 12-for-20, including seven hits in nine at-bats to lead CLU to the title game. Defensively, he has been lights out at the hot corner boasting a perfect fielding percentage throughout the week with 12 assists and four putouts in 16 chances.
