Davey Casciola

Baseball

Davey Casciola helped propel the Kingsmen into first place this weekend after batting .643 (9-for-14) with nine RBIs, three doubles, a triple and three runs scored in a three-game sweep over Occidental. The junior from San Luis Obispo, Calif. went 4-for-6 with two doubles and four RBIs in an eleven inning 7-5 game one win over the Tigers on Saturday and added three more hits and three RBIs in a 14-0 victory in game two. Casciola, who missed all of March due to injury, has led CLU to a 7-2 record since his return and has a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage since switching from third to first base.  


Liz Mertel

Softball

Liz Mertel hit her first career homerun for CLU and led the Regals with a .364 batting average (4-for-11), five RBIs and four runs in three games last week. The Newbury Park, Calif. native hit a game-tying solo blast over the left field wall in the sixth inning against Occidental, before the Tigers edged past CLU in the tenth inning. In the second game against Oxy on Saturday, Mertel batted 2-for-4 with two RBIs and scored a run to lead the Regals to a 7-4 victory.  The senior third basemen also had a two-RBI single in a matchup against Chapman on Wednesday.
