Athletes of the Week

Week of October 20, 2014

Bianca Deardorff

A 1-0-1 week for the women’s soccer team punched a playoff ticket for the Regals behind a goal and an assist from Bianca Deardorff. In the 7th minute against Pomona-Pitzer, she fielded a through ball and fired a shot to the right corner of the net for the first goal of the game and a 1-0 lead. Though PP would knot things up, the teams played to a draw behind a five shot game from the junior forward. On Saturday afternoon at Whittier Deardorff supplied an assist on an insurance goal late in the second half as CLU earned a 2-0 shutout to remain in second place in the SCIAC standings. Overall, she took seven shots with three on goal for a .429 shot on goal percentage during the week.

Jack Duncan

Cal Lutheran goalkeeper Jack Duncan had a phenomenal showing with a career-best 15 saves during a 1-1 draw with Occidental on Monday night. The Tigers peppered his cage with 24 total shots throughout the game and he misdirected more than half. It was the second time this season Duncan reached double figure saves and it marked his seventh career contest with 10 or more. In a 4-1 loss on Saturday, Duncan did not play.
