Nicho DellaValle


Senior infielder Nicho DellaValle led the No. 9 Kingsmen to a 4-0 week and a second consecutive SCIAC baseball title as CLU claimed its 11th crown in program history. At the plate, he hit at a .538 clip in four games with seven hits, which included a triple, for nine total bases. Additionally, he walked three times and was hit by a pitch for a .647 on base percentage. He stole a base and scored six times while also driving in a pair. DellaValle had a 3-for-4 game against CMS on Wednesday, scoring four times in a 15-3 shellacking. Saturday at Redlands he was 2-for-4 and reached base a trio of times. He also reached three times on Sunday against La Verne, following up by reaching twice against Caltech in just two innings, scoring a run in the first and driving one in in the second on a fielder’s choice. Playing both shortstop and second base, he came up with a perfect fielding percentage, contributing with a putout and 10 assists. On Sunday, he made back-to-back stellar defensive plays late in the game to help guide the Violet and Gold to a 10-5 win over La Verne. DellaValle is a four-year starter and leader both on and off the field.

Amanda Jones

Water Polo

Amanda Jones was instrumental in each of the three women’s water polo games at the SCIAC Championships this weekend. Overall, she finished the week with 10 assists, eight goals, four drawn ejections and seven steals. She was involved in seven scoring plays against both La Verne and Occidental by recording a hat-trick with four assists in each game. Her trio of goals against LV came on just three attempts and she also drew three ejections in that contest as well. Jones added a pair of goals and two assists with a weekend-high four steals against UR.
