SCIAC Athlete of the Week

For the first time in her CLU career, Melissa Skiba took home the top spot at the SCIAC Multi-Duals, after placing second in the same 6K a year ago. The senior harrier paced the field, finishing in 21:35.32, almost 13 full seconds ahead of the next fastest runner. For her career, Skiba became the first cross-country All-American in Cal Lutheran history after placing 11th as nationals and also was named the West Region Track Athlete of the Year last spring. 

Ryan Zirbel


Cal Lutheran running back Ryan Zirbel breakout performance in a 20-6 victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps last Saturday, rushing for a career-best 151 yards on 23 carries. The senior averaged 7.2 yards per carry and had five runs of 10 or more yards. Zirbel also carried in a two-point conversion after CLU perfectly executed a Statue of Liberty. For the season, Zirbel has rushed for 285 yards on 60 carries and two touchdowns.
