Alex Wardle

Alex Wardle led the Kingsmen to their first victory of 2013 in a 1-0 thriller over UC Santa Cruz on Sunday evening. The sophomore defender came up big on both sides of the field, blocking a potential Banana Slugs goal in the first half by sacrificing his body in front of the cage to keep UCSC off the board and later netting a penalty kick in the 71st minute with the game-winning goal in his only shot of the game. During the season opener, a 2-0 loss to PLU Wardle fired off six shots, though a number of them narrowly missed the cage and none fell for CLU. He has developed into a leader and is a captain this year in his second collegiate season.

Kristina Hulse

Kristina Hulse led the No. 21 Regals to their first win of the 2013 season. Saturday afternoon she scored twice, adding an assist in a 4-0 victory over Pacific Lutheran on the road. Hulse took just three shots with two finding the back of the net in the game and dished out an assist to freshman teammate Nicole Campbell. In the season opener, a 2-1 loss to Whitworth, she took four shots with three on target. After the opening weekend she holds a .714 shot on goal percentage and has a game-winning goal to start off her senior campaign.

Jackie Russell

Jackie Russell returned to the court after an injury sidelined her in 2012 to lead the No. 10 Regals volleyball team to a 2-0 opening weekend. The senior setter provided 59 assists in seven games while CLU hit at a .279 clip in wins over Whitworth (3-1) and Benedictine (3-0). Russell also added four kills in seven chances without an error for a .571 hitting percentage. She put down a pair of aces and was responsible for six digs, two solo blocks and two block assists for the Violet and Gold.
