Julea Juarez

Women's Track & Field

Juarez anchored two relay victories and won the 400 meters at the 2012 SCIAC Track & Field Championships (April 27-28) this past weekend. She was also a key member of the first Regals team to ever earn any part of the conference title.

Juarez teamed up with Lauren Rasmussen, Lauren Rohach, and Melissa Muntzel to break the 4x400-meter relay SCIAC meet record that had stood for 14 years. She teamed up with Kendall Sauter, Amy Galipeau, and Taryn Thordarson to eke out a victory in the 4x100-meter relay in a time of 48.44.

Juarez set a personal record in the 400 meter prelims with a time of 57.19. Her finals time of 57.60 seconds still won the event by nearly 1.5 seconds over the rest of the field.

She became the first woman in Cal Lutheran history to finish in under 25 seconds for th 200 meters (24.91) during the preliminary heats. Juarez went on to finish second in the event and contributed through relays or individual finishes a total of 38 points.

Byron Minnich

On Saturday, April 28, Minnich threw a two-hit complete game shutout against the regular season SCIAC champions La Verne. The senior picked up his first career complete game shutout in the final start of his collegiate career. He threw 113 pitches and struck out seven Leopards in the victory.

Adam Hayes

Men's Track & Field

Hayes earned a convincing win in the discus at the 2012 SCIAC Track & Field Championships (April 27-28). His second round throw of 52.27 meters (171 feet, 6 inches) was both a personal and Cal Lutheran record mark.

The senior thrower outclassed the field winning the event by over nine meters (nearly 30 feet). Any one of his three throws that were measured would have won the event by over 20 feet.
