Mikey McGinn

Men's Golf

Mikey McGinn shot 68 (-4) at Via Verde Golf Course in winning the individual crown at SCIAC No. 4 on Monday, March 26. His effort led the Kingsmen to the team victory and moving CLU into a tie for second place in the SCIAC standings.

McGinn has improved throughout the 2012 season including three top-10 finishes in SCIAC rounds. The sophomore tied for third in the individual standings at SCIAC No. 3 before winning SCIAC No. 4 by two shots.

McGinn currently ranks fourth in the SCIAC in scoring average and is one of three Kingsmen to rank in the top six overall. Cal Lutheran's four regular starters are in the top nine and CLU has five players in the top-10 in league scoring average.

Shonna Christianson


In her first collegiate start pitcher Shonna Christianson held No. 11 Redlands to one unearned run in her complete game effort. She held the Bulldogs offense, which had scored 24 total runs in two previous games against the Regals, scoreless over the first six innings.

Christianson tossed one shutout inning of relief in game two as the Regals narrowly lost the the nationally ranked Bulldogs by one run in both contests. On the day she held Redlands to just seven hits (six singles) and a .241 batting average on Saturday, March 31.

Nicholas Ballou

Men's Tennis

Nicholas Ballou teamed up with Ray Worley to defeat the nationally ranked No. 1 doubles pairing of Bryan Chow and Richard Meyer of Williams by a convincing 8-2 score on March 28. The CLU duo avenged its loss to Chow and Meyer in the USTA/ITA Divisional III National Championship title match this past fall.

So far this season Ballou and Worley have teamed up to defeat the No. 1, No. 4, and No. 5 nationally ranked doubles teams and are 11-2, 2-0 SCIAC this season.

In singles play Ballou earned his fifth win in a row after cruising to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Meyer at the No. 1 slot. All of those triumphs have come in straight sets while giving up no more than six total games in those contests.

Ballou is currently ranked n the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) West region rankings at No. 4 singles and No. 1 in doubles.
