Athletes of the Week

Week of January 23, 2012

John Leal

Leal played a pivotal role in the team's 7-6 extra innings victory to open the 2012 season against San Diego Christian. Trailing 6-2, he laced a bases clearing double, and later scored the game-tying run taking advantage of some careless defense.

Defensively he backed up two crucial plays that kept the Kingsmen in the game. He backed up second base to complete a double play, and later turned a teammate's errant throw into an out to begin the 11th inning.

In the bottom half of the frame he led off by getting on base via a four pitch walk. After advancing to third, he scurried home on the backside of a routine groundout to score the game-winning run.

Holly Beaman

Women's Tennis

Beaman went 2-for-2 in her season debut during a 7-2 home win over The Master's College to begin her senior season. She was one of four CLU players to pull out wins in both their singles and doubles matches.

Beaman teamed up with fellow senior Kim Kolibas to earn an 8-5 win as the No. 1 doubles spot. The Regals duo enters the 2012 season ranked No. 14 in the pre-season Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) West Region rankings.

She made quick work of her singles match winning 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.
