The college football season is still a couple months away but two Cal Lutheran football players have been selected to the 2009 Lindy's Preseason All-Division III Team. Senior Victor Edwards was named to the first team while sophomore Jackson Damron landed on the second team.
A record-setting group of 99 student-athetes from 19 teams at California Lutheran University were recognized by the school's Scholar Athlete Society at a year-end banquet. All the students maintained a 3.4 GPA or higher for the academic year while particpating as a NCAA Division III student-athlete.
Six of the 10 Cal Lutheran men's athletic programs secured top three conference finishes earning a fourth place result in the 2008-09 SCIAC All-Sports Standings. Points are awarded based on final conference standings for each of the nine SCIAC sports and awarded to each institution respectively.
Second year kicker Jackson Damron was selected to the 2009 Consensus Draft Services Division III Preseason All-American Second Team. After earning All-Conference first team last season he is the lone SCIAC player to earn a spot on the CDS teams.
Six California Lutheran student-athletes earned spots on the 2009 SCIAC Football All-Academic Team. Four offensive, one defensive and a special teams player on the Kingsmen roster made the grade.
After all the postseason accolades have officially been announced, California Lutheran University fall athletic programs achieved great success during their respective 2008 campaigns.
California Lutheran University football player Jacob Calderon was named to the 2008 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III All-America Team, released earlier today. The nation's regular season sack leader dominated at his defensive line position throughout the season.
Victor Edwards, Jacob Calderon and Jackson Damron were each named to the D3Football.com All-West Region Team, announced earlier this week. Edwards, a junior cornerback from Elk Grove, California led the way with a first team defensive selection.
